Harman Singh

Research Analyst

Harman is a Research Analyst in the Low Carbon Economy team at The Council. His work predominantly focuses on assessing carbon pricing mechanisms as a pathway to reduce emissions, and how it can guide India’s decarbonisation journey. This involves evaluating Emissions Trading Schemes across jurisdictions, studying Border Carbon Adjustments Mechanisms, and following the development of international carbon market mechanisms such as Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

Prior to joining The Council, Harman worked as a Junior Research Assistant at the Planetary Security Initiative of the Clingendael Institute in the Netherlands. At Clingendael, he was engaged on the climate-security nexus – an area of particular affinity, considering that he dedicated his Master Thesis to exploring a causal link between climate change and violent conflict. His other professional experiences include internship stints at Climate Group and The Dialogue in New Delhi.

Harman has recently graduated with an Advanced M.Sc. in International Relations and Diplomacy from Leiden University in the Netherlands. He is also a trained expert in ‘International Negotiations’ having undergone courses at the Clingendael Academy. Whereas for his undergrad, he pursued a B.A.(Hons) in Global Affairs, with a specialisation in Economics and Foreign Policy from Jindal School of International Affairs at O.P. Jindal Global University.

Harman sees himself as a sportsperson first, a climate / international affairs professional second. Having played football from an early age, it’s been his consistent friend and foe. While he is tenacious for sports overall, he is especially keen on adding a range of adventure sport experiences to his life. Meanwhile, at the slightest possibility of taking days-off, you will find him planning trips, hanging out with friends, or playing chess in a quiet corner!
