Dr Arunabha Ghosh Appointed to the Environment of Peace Initiative

We are immensely proud to announce that our CEO, Dr Arunabha Ghosh, has been appointed as one of the six members to a high-level panel of the Environment of Peace initiative chaired by Margot Wallström, who served as Sweden's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs until 2019.

The Environment of Peace initiative will focus international attention on practical steps to address the negative impact of today’s environmental crises, so as to improve tomorrow’s prospects for peace and security. It will, among other things, produce a major report in 2022 to coincide with Stockholm+50, the 50th anniversary of the Stockholm UN Conference on the Human Environment in 1972.

Other members of the panel include Helen Clark (former Administrator of UNDP and former Prime Minister of New Zealand), Hindou Ibrahim (environmental activist and SDG Advocate from Chad), Johan Rockström (co-Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Germany), Ma Jun (Director of the Institute for Public and Environmental Affairs, Beijing, China), and Dan Smith (Director of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute).

Dr Ghosh advises governments, industry, civil society, and international organisations around the world. In 2018, the UN Secretary-General nominated him to the UN's Committee for Development Policy. In 2018, the Government of India appointed him as a member of the Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority for the National Capital Region.

He is also a member of the Global Future Council on Energy at the World Economic Forum. He has advised India’s Prime Minister’s Office, several ministries and state governments, and international organisations. He was also invited by the Government of France, as a Personnalité d’Avenir, to advise on the COP-21 climate negotiations; also advised extensively on HFC negotiations under the Montreal Protocol; and was instrumental in conceptualising and designing the International Solar Alliance.
