Sumit works on climate change and the energy sector, particularly in relation to developing policy strategies, enhancing efficiency, and addressing governance issues. His current work at The Council involves examining capacity building needs and transparency arrangements under the UNFCCC.
Sumit has also been involved in developing an institutional framework for the measuring, reporting and verification (MRV) of India's domestic mitigation actions, and for identifying the best MRV practices globally.
Before joining The Council, Sumit worked as a Business Analyst at Evalueserve, where he evaluated and rated companies (retail, mining, and beverages) on environmental, social and governance aspects. He has also worked as a consultant for CSTEP, where he assisted the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, in policy formation for the inclusion of three sectors (railways, refinery and distribution companies) in the PAT-II Cycle.
Sumit believes that although the climate problem requires collective action, individual actions can make a big difference. He promotes sustainability practices in day-to-day life through a Facebook page called ‘Sustainable Canopy.’
