Urwa is a Research Analyst in the Sustainable Livelihoods team at The Council. Her work focuses on enabling access to affordable financing for clean-technology solutions and mainstreaming green jobs ambition across states in India. She is engaged in programmes centred on generating sustainable rural livelihoods through promotion of the green economy.
Urwa holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), University of Delhi. During her graduation, she worked as the Project Head of an NGO - Zamrudpur Development Programme where she led a team of 48 volunteers.
She completed her master’s in Development Studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. While pursuing her post-graduation, she interned at the Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) where she received insights into the institute’s efforts aimed at igniting an entrepreneurial culture in Kashmir. During the pandemic, she worked on the Migrant Workers Tracking Project - a collaborative initiative of TISS Hyderabad, ICRG and UNDP. She went on to do her dissertation on the conflictual urban environmentalism impacting the aboriginal dwellers of the Dal-Nigeen lake in Srinagar, Kashmir.
Beyond the professional realm, Urwa is a poetry enthusiast and has a dedicated blog under the name Aawaaz Se Aagaaz for the same. In her free time, she likes to visit picturesque natural settings and stare at the view in silence.
