Designation offered: Programme Associate- Power, CEEW Centre for Energy Finance
Reporting to: Programme Lead 
Location: New Delhi, India

Purpose: 
The Centre for Energy Finance seeks to hire a Programme Associate to help assess repurposing potential and map technical requirements to undertake repowering of old electricity generation assets. The candidate needs to have an understanding of the power markets in the country. And an ability to converse with the government and other stakeholders to understand their viewpoint around decarbonising India s electricity generation. The Associate will be expected to take initiatives towards advancing the objectives of the Centre for Energy Finance and bring the knowledge of excel based analysis. The Associate will be required to work upon diverse projects spanning from power, finance and other sector decarbonsiations. CEEW offers an intellectually challenging and conducive work environment focusing on research rigour, innovative thinking, and strategic outreach. We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to join the interdisciplinary CEEW team.

The Council seeks to hire the Programme Associate to

  • Build models and methodology for coal power repurposing
  • Help develop models for assessing technical constraints for each technology and its application
  • Develop projects to decarbonise financial sectors and other hard to abate sectors
  • Perform rigorous quantitative and qualitative research
  • Build relationships with new organisations to broaden the scope of work
  • Write high-quality research pieces – papers, presentations, policy briefs etc

The successful applicant will be responsible for understanding technical, business, financial and regulatory trends and should be able to successfully capture them quantitatively and qualitatively. All information may not be in the public domain. The applicant will be expected to reach out to organisations (government and private) and sectoral experts to gauge the reasons behind a specific trend. Such analysis is then likely to be used by policymakers to frame guidelines/policies for government, investors, and industries to take important decisions. The Associate’s work is expected to feed into the final outputs of CEEW - CEF, which would assist decision-makers in the public and private sectors.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined below, the Associate should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities and respond to unanticipated events and developments.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

Research

  • Track market developments regularly through both primary and secondary research
  • Strengthen the technical requirements to assess repurposing options
  • Create new areas for research and products
  • Participate in knowledge-transfer activities, including collaborative meetings and training workshops with other research groups and institutions
  • Undertake rigorous qualitative and quantitative analysis of market challenges and their impact on the sector understudy
  • Review large amounts of data and analyse information using a variety of mathematical tools and interdisciplinary methodologies

General responsibilities - Programme Assistance

  • Assist with project implementation, including preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material 
  • Assist administrative team in the organisation of relevant events (whenever needed) 
  • Develop cordial & working relationships with industry stakeholders for timely access to data 
  • Support efforts to use new media platforms for wide dissemination of CEEW’s work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community 

Education

  • The ideal candidate should be a master’s degree holder with a finance and clean energy background. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, economics, finance, power or professional certifications in combination with degrees in engineering, sustainability, energy etc., is desirable. However, candidates not fulfilling this requirement may also be considered as long as they demonstrate strong proficiency in understanding of power sector and markets. 

Professional experience

  • Five to ten years of experience in power plant operations, power markets, consulting, multilateral/bilateral financial institutions, or think tanks. 
  • Prior experience related to the clean energy sector is desired.
  • Prior experience in or an understanding of issues associated with climate finance at national and international levels would be considered favourably.  
  • Experience in large programmes with significant stakeholder management would be an added advantage.

Compensation
Competitive compensation – commensurate to the experience and matching the best of standards adopted by industry or other similar organizations for similar roles.
