Designation Offered: Research Analyst  

Reporting to: Programme Associate 

Job Location: New Delhi  

Purpose  

CEEW seeks to hire a motivated and suitable candidate for the position of Research Analyst in the Low Carbon Economy vertical to support and drive the team’s working in the evolving field of carbon markets. The team’s carbon markets work stream aims to inform and evaluate carbon pricing policies designed to support the energy transition in India. CEEW work is driven by evidence-based unbiased research and cutting-edge analytical approaches. The candidate should have a strong interest in climate policy issues, along with a strong inclination towards exploring market-based policy approaches that can drive decarbonization.  

 Job Duties and Accountabilities  

Research  

  • To study existing literature and build analytical understanding about carbon markets, including both voluntary and compliance-based carbon markets. 

  • To conduct an in-depth analysis of historical market trends of different market-based instruments using relevant tools and software. 

  • To develop research projects and proposals to strengthen and expand existing and new research focused on carbon markets.  

  • To develop surveys and analyse research data using different data analysis software and tools.  

  • To publish research in high quality peer reviewed national and international journals.  

  • To present research at key constituencies, advisory bodies, conferences & research institutes.  

  • To develop research networks locally, nationally and internationally in support of research programmes.

  • To extrapolate and verify data provided by research analysts/programme officers, evaluate, organise and edit the data into comprehensive standard report forms.  

  • To keep a tab on the policy developments in India and across key countries of the world on energy and climate policy.  

  • To keep abreast of developments in the Indian carbon market and the wider international carbon pricing landscape.  

  • To write research reports/papers/briefing notes. 

  • To generate knowledge content – blogs, policy briefs in regular intervals.  

  • To travel to project sites, when required, to conduct interviews or collect data for different research projects.  

Engagement and Events  

  • To engage with relevant stakeholders; attend and represent organisation at conferences and sessions, relevant to climate policy.  
  • To plan, manage and execute physical or virtual events led by CEEW with relevant external stakeholders. This includes absorbing logistical duties linked to event management. 
  • Support the team with outreach and maintaining systematic record of engagements.  

Selection Criteria  

Education  

  • Master’s degree with specialisation in environmental economics, public policy, environmental studies, corporate sustainability or related field.  
  • Should have a strong inclination towards research, including an understanding of experimental and analytical research.  
  • Familiarity with quantitative skills and high degree of comfort with quantitative and qualitative analysis.  

Experience  

  • 1.5 – 3 years of experience in the field of carbon market research or a similar field is preferred.  

Main skills  

  • Good understanding about carbon markets concepts and policy frameworks is essential.  
  • Strong critical thinking and analytic skills.  
  • Strong networking and engagement skills.  
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Strong writing skills for reports / issue briefs / blogs. 
  • Strong MS Office application skills. 
  • Preferable is candidates have sound econometric and statistical skills.

Compensation  

CEEW offers competitive compensation commensurate to the experience and matching the best of standards adopted by industry or other similar organizations for similar roles.
