CEEW Ranked South Asia’s Top Think Tank for Eighth Year Running

For the eighth consecutive year, the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) has been ranked first in South Asia among ‘Top Think Tanks with Annual Operating Budget under $5 Million’ by the University of Pennsylvania’s ‘2020 Global Go To Think Tank Index’ released yesterday. CEEW has also been ranked as South Asia’s ‘Top Energy and Resource Policy’ think tank for three years in a row. In total, CEEW featured across ten categories in the latest Global Go To Think Tank Index. Only three other think tanks in India (across all domains of expertise) have been ranked in more categories.

As per the 2020 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report, CEEW has also been ranked within the top 100 in the world in categories including ‘Top Science and Technology Think Tanks’, ‘Think Tanks to Watch’, ‘Top Environment Policy Think Tank’, ‘Best Institutional Collaboration Involving Two or More Think Tanks’ and ‘Best Managed Think Tanks’.

Dr Arunabha Ghosh, CEO, CEEW, said, “The latest rankings are testament to CEEW’s resilience in an unprecedented year, during which we have once again featured in many categories of the Global Go To Think Tank Index report — and upped our standing. Responding to the ongoing challenges induced by the global pandemic, our efforts are geared towards squaring the seeming impossible trinity of jobs, growth and sustainability, with a razor-sharp focus on tail-end risks. We will continue to uphold our reputation of quality research, impartial policy engagement and extensive public outreach. And, more than anything, we will continue to invest in our people — our strongest asset — in pursuit of our collective purpose.”

The 2020 Global Go To Think Tank Index is the most comprehensive global ranking of the world’s leading think tanks, considering 11,175 think tanks worldwide, including 612 think tanks in India. It is compiled with assistance from close to 1,800 peer institutions and experts from the print and electronic media, academia, public and private donor institutions and governments around the world.

In 2020, CEEW was also certified as a Great Place to Work ® as per the latest study released by the Great Places to Work ® (GPTW) Institute.
