Sonal Kumar

Programme Lead

Sonal is a Programme Lead in the Technology, Finance and Tradeteam at The Council. His work is focused around sustainable cooling wherein he supports implementation of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol and the India Cooling Action Plan.

Sonal has 13 years of experience in clean energy, energy efficiency, decarbonisation, air pollution and climate change mitigation. His work experience spans building evidence through technical and policy research, development and implementation of policies and programmes, capacity building and supporting stakeholders in transitioning to clean energy.

Prior to joining the Council, he was working with Greentech Knowledge Solutions Pvt Ltd (GKSPL) as the Associate Director. He has played a pivotal role in some of GKSPL’s key accomplishments such as development of ‘Energy Efficient Enterprise (E3)’ certification initiative of the BEE for the brick industry, facilitating the Bihar brick industry transition to cleaner technologies, and modelling and forecasting cooling energy demand in residential building by 2050.

Sonal holds a B.Tech. degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
