Sabarish Elango

Research Analyst

Sabarish joined The Council as a Research Analyst with the Industrial Sustainability and Competitiveness team, having priorly worked with the team for six months as a Research Intern. His interests lie primarily in the transformation of industrial systems through effective decarbonisation pathways by means of energy efficiency improvements, fuel switching, and robust energy policy design. He is also involved in understanding the techno-economics of future technologies such as hydrogen steel, carbon capture and renewable energy storage.

Sabarish is an engineer by education – he has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai. He holds a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. He developed his master’s thesis on Life cycle assessment of the coal-based sponge iron industry in India while interning at CEEW. His interests in sustainability and clean energy stem from his bachelor’s days, specifically a summer school programme he attended on Sustainable Energy Technology at the RWTH Aachen University in Germany.

Sabarish has had a lifelong interest in cars and gadgets. Most of his free time is spent consuming automotive, motorsport, and tech-related media. Music is a very important part of his daily life – he can be found singing along to his playlist even when working. While he has travelled a lot, Sabarish is not very outdoorsy. Having lived in the city all his life, his idea of a weekend is trying out new restaurants and window-shopping expensive watches.

He wishes to someday be skilled in data analytics, advanced GIS mapping, and coding using Python. As a firm believer in collective effort, Sabarish hopes to align his vision with that of CEEW in order to contribute to nation-building towards a sustainable future.

  • What I believe in

Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
