As developing economies grow, rising industrial emissions are a major roadblock. These countries need more robust and transparent monitoring systems to pursue low-carbon growth. To aid better monitoring, The Council has produced India’s first bottom-up carbon emissions estimates for the industrial sector at the sub-national level (period 2005 to 2013). These estimates enable a granular understanding of the nature and quantum of emissions; and assist industry, government, academia, and civil society to explore suitable technologies and check unjustifiable emissions. We are also developing India’s domestic measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) framework to establish a transparent system of reporting at national and international levels.
