Simran Kalra

Research Analyst

At the Council, Simran works in the Power Team as a Research Analyst on issues related to electricity policy and governance, demand-side management and energy sustainability. She uses both quantitative and qualitative insights to understand the power sector better and, in turn, contribute in creating a smarter ecosystem of knowledge.

Prior to working at the Council, Simran worked with Energy Policy Institute at University of Chicago (EPIC-India), as a research consultant where she assisted in conducting Randomised Control Trials in the field of solar energy and revenue recovery for discoms. Prior to her transition to the policy arena, Simran has worked in the communications sector with leading scientific and engineering institutes of India to assist them in taking their research to a larger audience.

Simran holds a Masters degree in Public Policy and Governance from Azim Premji University and an undergraduate degree in English Literature (Hons.) from Ramjas College, Delhi University. Through her research, Simran likes to break-down the often impermeable governance structures and study how they interact with the society and market. During her Masters, she has engaged in research in a wide variety of topics including legal systems, discrimination in the housing market and Genetically Modified Crops (GMOs).

In her free time, Simran likes to transport herself to different realities by reading science-fiction and fantasy novels.
